The Department of Corrections is recruiting for a Mental Health Clinician III. This clinical position provides direct mental health services to inmates at the Fairbanks Correctional Center.

Under general supervision the incumbent will:

Screen & triage newly arrested inmates presenting with a wide variety of diagnoses including severe mental illness, behavior problems, organic disorders, alcohol/drug abuse, developmental disabilities and personality disorders

Conduct mental status exams and diagnostic assessments for inmates housed at FCC

Provide individual counseling and treatment planning for inmates on the mental health caseload

Provide suicide assessments and develop safety plans for inmates as needed

Make referrals to and assist the psychiatric provider with telemedicine clinics

Develop detailed release plans for inmates with severe & persisting mental illness

Develop and facilitate open population core curriculum that will ensure group programming aimed at the adjustment and rehabilitation of inmates

Provide annual suicide prevention trainings for institutional staff

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctoral degree from an accredited college in psychology, social work, child guidance, nursing, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.

OR

A master’s degree from an accredited college in psychology, social work, child guidance, nursing, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field and four years of professional experience performing psychotherapeutic casework. This is met by service as a Mental Health Clinician with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution: Graduate study beyond the master’s degree will substitute for up to one year of the required professional experience performing psychotherapeutic casework (2 semester hours or 3 quarter hours of graduate study equals one month of work experience.)
