Learning lunches are held the first or second Wednesday of every month, September through June. A light deli lunch is provided by North Star Hospital FREE OF CHARGE.

NASW Members: $10.00
Non-Members: $15.00

Requirements for Getting Licensed in Alaska

 

All licensed social workers in Alaska must receive 45 continuing education contact hours during each licensing period (every two years). Current licensed social workers can apply credits earned from July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2008.

Continuing education must be relevant to the practice of social work. Please refer to the Alaska licensing regulations for more specific information, or contact the Board of Social Work Examiners at (907) 465-2551.

 

During the first renewal period the licensee must receive:

  • 6 contact hours with content in Alaska Native cross-cultural studies;  

  • 6 contact hours covering some aspect of substance abuse training;

  • 3 contact hours in professional ethics.

During subsequent renewal periods the licensee must receive:

  • 6 contact hours with content in cross-cultural studies, 3 of which must pertain to Alaska Natives;

  • 6 contact hours covering some aspect of substance abuse training;

  • 3 contact hours in professional ethics.  

As outlined in the Alaska licensing regulations, social worker continuing education is available from a variety of recognized sources, including professional seminars and conferences, university classes, or by audio or videotape.

The regular meeting of the Fairbanks branch of NASW is the second Wednesday at 5:30 pm at the Food Bank on 26th Avenue off South Cushman. Networking and set-up begin at 5:00 for those who would like to come early.
