Job Title: Behavioral Health Clinician

Responsibilities & Duties:

* Educate community groups, patients and their families about addiction as a treatable disease

* Provide initial screenings and integrated behavioral health assessments using the published American Society of Addiction Medicine Criteria that identify service needs and recommend options for care.

* Involve patient and their families in the development of treatment plan goals, objectives and interventions that address their behavioral health needs.

* Reassess and review treatment progress with patients at proscribed intervals.

* Provide coordinated care by initiating or participating in patient-centered consultation with other internal and external providers involved in are or services.

* Provide case management services to assist patients and their families with access to needed benefits and services.

* Assist in establishing effective communication between NCADD Juneau, other agencies serving patients, and the community.

* Maintain a state approved patient record system.

* Conduct group and individual counseling in NCADD's outpatient treatment program.

* Other duties as assigned.


Skills & Abilities Required:

* Masters degree from an accredited college or University in social Work, Psychology or closely related discipline required.

* Must have supervised experience in providing counseling and/or psychotherapy services.

* Must demonstrate knowledge in the areas of diagnostic assessment, long and short term treatment, family systems theory, addiction, and group treatment.

* Certified in addiction therapy by ACBHC or be certifiable within one year.

* Meet agency quality and compliance standard by accurately completing clinical documentation and service reporting in a timely manner.

Job Title: Behavioral Health Clinician II


Agency: Juneau Alliance for Mental Health, Inc. (JAMHI)


Description: Under supervision of the Assistant Clinical Director, Behavioral Health (BH) Clinicians provide a combination of clinical, case management and emergency mental health services. 

10% - Emergency Mental Health Services:  This position shares evening on-call coverage with other clinicians. This position may also need to provide back-up Emergency Services during day-time hours.
70% - Clinical Services:  Provision of direct client care and clinical documentation, including individual and group therapy, treatment planning, assessment updates, treatment plan reviews, etc. for persons on assigned caseload.
20% - Administrative: Meetings, Other.

1. All direct service staff must complete the following competency based training:
    a. Areas that reflect specific needs of person served.
        • Ability to complete a multi-axial behavioral health assessment.
        • Demonstrate how to involve client in treatment plan development.
        • Must be familiar with and able to utilize and research treatment – use form treatment notes, groups, general & clinical supervision, direct observation
     b. Clinical skills that are appropriate to the position.
     c. Individual plan development.
     d. Interviewing skills.

     e. Program-related research-based treatment approaches.

         • Evidence-based Practice (EBP)



1. A minimum of a master’s degree in a behavioral health field and 2 yrs mental health experience.

2. Must be professionally licensed in field or eligible for licensure and actively pursuing licensure. Preference will be given to applicants with current licensure.

3. Experience working with persons experiencing co-occurring disorders preferred.

4. Ability to pass a criminal background check in accordance with the current state regulation requirements.

5. Professional writing, computer and communications skills.


6. Ability to provide and maintain a professional relationship with individual clients and their families, which allows for mutual respect, consistency and empathy in all interactions, and appropriate ethical and relational limits and boundaries.

Must have valid Alaska driver’s license and be able to clear the JAMHI auto insurance screening through the independent insurance carrier and/or if driving

Job Description: Participates as a member of a case management team which includes nurse and social worker case managers, physicians and multidisciplinary team members.

·        Ensures that optimal care is delivered in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

·        Monitors use of resources to ensure effective outcomes.

·        Serves as a resource of patients, other clinicians, the organization and other community agencies/groups to ensure high-level patient care delivery and safe/appropriate discharge dispositions.

·       Participates in other hospital committees and teams as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum qualifications necessary for entry into this classification):

Education: Graduation from an accredited college in Social Work, Masters Level preferred. Completes annual educational requirements. Minimum of 45 hours of related continuing education every 2 years. Completes annual educational requirements.

License(s): State of Alaska Social Work license eligibility (must meet education requirement(s) for Alaska State licensure) .

Certification(s): Accredited Case Management Certification within two years of hire, Chemical Dependency Certification preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in discharge planning, utilization review, case management. Strong organizational skills with attention to details along with computer skills . Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility. Acute care and/or other health care social work experience preferred. Prior experience with Meditech preferred. Ability to float to other areas of the hospital system to include the Mental Health Unit, Acute medical, and Rainforest Recovery Center. Possible involvement or presence with the Emergency Department and the Emergency Department super users as identified by the Lead Social Worker or Director of Case Management.
